Molding and Finishing Details
When a craftsman achieves a level of skill at a trade, primarily when they work hard to hone their craft to an art, building and crafting mistakes seem to pop out from everywhere.
For instance, trim and accent pieces are small, but they create a significant visual impact. That impact can be covertly negative without the viewer being consciously aware of what it is about the room or area that is so bothersome. Poor cuts, sloppy painting or staining, or lack of precision in woodwork during crafting or installation can affect the ambiance of a room.
Mistakes
An example of a trim mistake can be found during the installation of crown molding. Crown molding that isn’t going to be paired with LED lighting should be flush with the ceiling. When it isn’t, it looks odd, as though it’s come loose from the ceiling and is slowly sinking. During installation, a crafter has to be aware of the impact those decor choices will make on the overall scheme of things, and pass that information on to the homeowner during the selection process.
The same is true of a piece of baseboard that ends in an odd little corner and stops instead of being correctly mitered. The temptation is keen to look around for the loose piece. The problem is that one of the features of trim is that it defines the detailed elements of the home. When they are poorly defined, the house looks structurally weak. It’s inelegant.
Maintaining beautiful architecture
When The Wood Doctor upgrades, finishes, repairs, or refinishes the wood in your home, it’s a point of pride that we take care in the details of our work. Our corners are crisply mitered, and that floor and ceiling molding are well matched. Making sloppy mistakes is an insult to the architecture of a home, and mistakes will last for decades, forcing the inhabitants to live alongside these monstrosities.
Paint and stain
A standard of quality can also define paint and stain projects. Prep work when wood or wood elements are involved must be meticulous and well-considered. Not all damage can be repaired, such as the corner of a silverware drawer that the puppy chewed. Damage like that should be repaired by replacing the damaged piece or even the drawer.
We realize that companies are in business to make a profit. However, it is also essential to have a standard of quality and pride in professionalism. After all, the homeowner and family are going to live with this quality for years. A little more work to enhance their living space is well worth the effort.
